5 Reasons Why Every Disabled Person Should Attend A Soundbath
Ever been to a sound bath?
Me neither - and as an anxious disabled girl, it has been on my bucket
list of ‘woo woo’ experiences to try out. Anxiety is a constant in a body
that is deemed unacceptable to society, and I experience pain
throughout the day. I use a cane to walk, and was feeling very burnt
out. Work was running me ragged, and new health diagnosis’ were
always going to add to the heavy load I carry daily. At this point, I was
willing to try out just about anything.
If you like cats, you should get yourself down to a sound bath at
Purrfect Space; they happen twice a month, and are worth the time
out.
Here are five reasons why you should get involved in a sound bath:
Friendly cats. What else is there to say?
The cats, the cats! They are just so darn friendly! They will melt even
the coldest of hearts.
From the get-go, it was almost like we were under siege from cats
galore! They play, they are curious about guests - and sometimes even
curl up (or on) you. Aslan is the definitive leader of the pack, with the
greatest of manes; others will keep you company, and may even curl
up alongside you. If your heart is hurting, or you have just had a bad
week, this will bring you back to a small slice of sanity. They’ll hold
your heart in their furry paws.
Disability access is standard
I’m disabled, and trying to get into events, let alone take part, can be a
bit hit and miss sometimes. I worry that I’ll miss out on experiences
sometimes, especially because I am at risk of seizures, and steps can be
a struggle. (A place to sit is crucial!) I was pleasantly surprised by how
accessible this experience was to me; there were no steps, wide doors,
and an accessible bathroom. It is empowering to me, to be in a setting
like this; it enables my full participation, independently.

4. Take time to pause in a technological world
For anyone who is feeling burnt out, or just even a little bit lost, the
world can seem like.. quite a scary place at the moment. A lot is
happening in the world of health and disability at the moment, and
trying to continue on at a time of crisis feels somewhat impossible at
the best of times. There are so many notifications, options, people,
ugh!
A sound bath invites you back into your body, to feel like yourself
again - and to take a pause in this technologically driven world. You’ll
feel all the better for it.
5. The ultimate feeling of relaxation is worth the price tag
Need to switch off, to be guided to relax and to allow yourself just a
little bit of time? I’ve felt overworked lately due to so much paperwork
related to disability and testing, along with so many notifications that
are time sensitive to respond to.
A sound bath is reasonably priced, making the feeling of relaxation
well worth the while.
